Traffic Tickets (Crimes)

Pittsburgh Criminal Defense Lawyer

Traffic Ticket Defense

In many cases, a traffic ticket is a nuisance. But when a motorist is unfairly charged, or unfairly treated by law enforcement, the best offense is an aggressive defense. In other cases, traffic charges can be much more serious. The social and legal consequences can include jail time, fines, license suspension, skyrocketing insurance premiums and job loss. Those seeking a Pittsburgh criminal defense attorney often rely on Blaine Jones. Our law firm represents clients in and around the Pittsburgh area (Allegheny County), and has handled thousands of cases throughout Western Pennsylvania.

Consulting an attorney in a timely fashion is critical to protecting your rights and your driving privileges. In some cases, you may have as little as 10 days to contest the charges. The truth of the matter is that some traffic offenses are quite serious. And Pennsylvania's driver's license point system can quickly result in a suspended license. Those who violate the law by driving on a suspended or revoked license can quickly end up behind bars. In the vast majority of cases, it can be a lot less hassle to fight the underlying traffic offense than to fight a suspension or an arrest for driving without a license.

Pennsylvania Traffic Laws: Points on Your License

Points are added to your license for various traffic infractions; corrective action begins after six points.

  • Six or more points for the first time results in a written notice to take a written special point examination.
  • Six or more points for the second time results in a hearing.
  • Six or more points for the third time results in suspension.
  • The driver's license of a minor may be suspended after six points or if convicted of driving 26mph or more over the speed limit. The first suspension is for 90 days. Subsequent suspensions are for 120 days.
